Somehow we managed to fit the erotic watercolour paintings and all the paper roses into the spit along with Maybel and other assorted supplies for the fashion show that preceded the art party. The show was great! Lost Lockets performed, and Liz Harris too with a Grouper set and her optic art installation, collages by Amanda Luna, and amazing work by Damien Gilley. It felt so good to be part of such a great party. CAn;t wait til next months' !

and ten o'clock musical performance of Nancy Reagan
7pm-11pm Gallery 101 on NW 6th between NW Everett and NW Flanders (Everett Station Galleries) Thursday May 6th!

Robert Khasho, 22, is a young Portland native mixed media artist. Mainly using a combination of lite brites and construction paper as his medium, Robert preserves pop images in intricately cut and illuminated works that showcase the humanist qualities of superhuman iconography. Heavily influenced by the culture and imagery of the late 60’s and early 70’s, his work brings a sense of nostalgia to it that transcends kitsch and supercedes the boundaries between art and memory.

Robert Khasho graduated honorary art student of Jefferson High School in 2006. He is also a recipient of the Multnomah County Scholastic Art Award. He has recently been featured in shows at Worksound Gallery and East End.

I have been daydreaming a lot lately about the volcanic activity currently taking place in Iceland. It is a dramatic and potentially lethal beauty. What's remarkable to me is that the peak of the volcano is covered by glacial icecap - and with it's recent activity is now causing floods.

LHC

The LHC, pictured above, is the world's largest and highest-energy particle accelerator. On March 30th 2010, particle collisions took place that set a new world record for the highest-energy man-made particle collisions. By colliding opposing particle beams physicists at Cern hope to gain new knowledge about the universe.

On September 19th 2008 the firing did not go as planned. It resulted in sparks and fire, while snow began to simultaneously fall - All below the Earth's surface.

"Sparks erupted. An intense electrical arc began burning a hole in the dipole’s steel jacket. Pressurized helium turned from liquid to gas and blasted into the tunnel, creating a huge pressure wave. In a domino-like chain reaction, 35-ton dipoles were jerking and smashing against other 35-ton dipoles, some blown two feet off their moorings.

The main damage was done within 20 seconds. It was all over a half-minute after that. Ten of the million-dollar dipoles were wrecked and smoldering. Twenty-nine more were damaged. The destruction extended for more than 2,000 feet, and smoke and soot billowed through the tunnel. In the vicinity of the accident the air had been instantly supercooled by the tons of escaping helium—which meant that several hundred feet underground, sealed off from skies and weather, snow began to fall. “Some say the world will end in fire / Some say in ice,” wrote Robert Frost, but in this sector of the Large Hadron Collider, the showstopping spectacle involved both at once."

What a beautiful Vernal Equinox of a day!

I had a lovely afternoon, meeting with April's artists, Lisa Dear and Ms Noble! The excitement is beginning to set in as we look forward to beautiful work to be shown here at Salome. Lisa will be displaying watercolored illustrations of Uniponys and perhaps even Whales, as well as her notorious Panty-hose creatures. Yep, panty-hose creatures! And Julie Noble is taking over the nook to install a "future reality" hovel. She has been researching Portland's past and looking to the future, imaging its inhabitants. Both are using gorgeous palette of colors. We are looking forward to the transformation to begin!

Opening night vas magical too say z least!
Jaret's photos were great! Modou was our first paying customer! The reading by Jaret was creepy and amazing! Joey Casio blew my mind, he filled z room with a blueish energy! All of our friends were so nice and helpfull and had such a wonderful time. But most of all, Laura was so amazing and beautiful. She is z best host-ess in z world, and it warmed my heart to share such a magical evening with her, it was z best! I didn't take a lot of pictures because I had no film for my "real" camera, but here is what I did manage to document. Thanks to Joe Preston for z gear, Mark for dropping it, Jill for z dishes, Karen, and Locketts for cleaning, Sasha for z press, Jaret for his eye, Joey for his soul, and Laura for her friendship.

A young boy drifts listlessly between the steady blur of his day-to-day life and the intrusive allure of nocturnal dreams as an ideal. Amidst the insistence of ordinary life in school custom there seems something both more reasonable and modest behind the next corner, turning the simple process of waking up in the morning into a search for something to hold on to. Thinking to himself will the school dance ever come, will next week sort itself out, won't it just pass by . . . his hopes and well wishes emanate the growing promise of coming despair.

Sage came by Salome today to help us get our gallery walls painted. She was a real champ. Whew. We chose Mushroom and I think it looks beautiful. Feeling excited to see Jaret on Monday when he comes by with his framed work for our very first Thursday, on March 4th.

We decided there was no place we'd rather be than here at Salome for Valentine's day, so we opened our doors and welcomed our friends over for drink and dance. We drank champagne, and made fondue in a pot Swiss Melissa found us for our housewarming. It was delicious and the gallery reeked of fancy cheese!
